Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ShiftStep, a goal-planning service provided by Areteos LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States ("Areteos LLC", "we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account, subscribing to a plan, or continuing to use ShiftStep, you agree to these Terms. If you use ShiftStep on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization; if you use it as an individual, you confirm you are of legal age to form a binding contract.

1. The service

ShiftStep helps you pursue one meaningful goal at a time by turning it into milestones and small, scheduled daily tasks. The service includes a planning engine that uses artificial intelligence to generate and adjust your plan, daily task tracking, periodic recalibration of unfinished work, reminders, and analytics about your progress. ShiftStep is offered on a free tier and through paid Premium subscriptions ($9.99 per month or $59.99 per year, as displayed at checkout). We may change plan features from time to time; material reductions to a paid plan you have already paid for will be communicated in advance.

2. Accounts and credentials

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date. Notify us immediately at hello@areteos.io if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse ShiftStep. Specifically, you must not:

• use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law;
• engage in fraud, spam, or deceptive practices, including creating fake accounts or abusing free previews and trials;
• infringe the intellectual property or other rights of any person;
• interfere with the security or operation of the service, including introducing malware, probing or scanning for vulnerabilities, scraping, or attempting to access data or systems you are not authorized to reach;
• reverse engineer the service, resell or redistribute access to it, or circumvent technical limits such as usage quotas; or
• use the AI features to create illegal content, non-consensual intimate imagery or deepfakes, hateful or harassing content, malware, or to attempt to bypass the model's safety protections.

4. AI-generated plans and accuracy

ShiftStep's planning and recalibration features use AI to generate milestones, tasks, and schedule suggestions based on the information you provide. You are responsible for the information you enter, for how you use the suggestions the service produces, and for verifying that a plan is appropriate for your circumstances before acting on it. AI output may be inaccurate or incomplete, and plans are not a substitute for professional judgment. ShiftStep does not provide medical, health, financial, legal, or tax advice; a plan involving fitness, health, money, or any regulated area is general guidance only and should be reviewed with an appropriate professional. We may remove or restrict content, refuse or filter AI outputs, and suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

5. Your content

You retain ownership of the goals, milestones, tasks, notes, and other content you create in ShiftStep. You grant us a limited license to host, store, and process that content solely as needed to provide, secure, and improve the service — for example, generating your plan, sending reminders you requested, and recalibrating your schedule. If you believe content on the service infringes your rights, contact hello@areteos.io with a description of the work and the allegedly infringing material; we will investigate and may remove content, and accounts with repeated or serious infringement may be terminated.

6. Our intellectual property

ShiftStep — including its software, design, branding, and documentation — is owned by Areteos LLC. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the service within the plan you selected, for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works from the service, except as permitted by law.

7. Payment, subscriptions, and refunds

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.

Payment, billing, taxes, cancellation, and refund mechanics for your subscription are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. Premium subscriptions renew automatically at the interval you selected (monthly or yearly) until cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription from your account settings or by contacting billing@areteos.io. Cancellation stops future renewals and keeps your access until the end of the period you have paid for. 8. Service availability

We work hard to keep ShiftStep available, but we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free, and we may modify or discontinue features. We are not liable for planned maintenance, outages, or third-party service disruptions that affect availability.

9. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to ShiftStep if you materially breach these Terms, fail to pay amounts due, create a security or fraud risk, or repeatedly or seriously violate our policies. Where practical and lawful, we will tell you before or shortly after doing so. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time from your account settings.

10. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will meet your requirements, that results will be accurate or reliable, or that defects will be corrected.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Areteos LLC's aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the fees you paid to us in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Areteos LLC against claims arising from content you submit, your unlawful use of the service, or your violation of these Terms.

13. When your account ends

If your account is terminated or you delete it, your access stops immediately. You can export your plan data from the service before deletion; we retain account data for a reasonable window (up to 30 days) after deletion to allow recovery of mistakes, after which it is deleted, except records we must keep for legal, billing-audit, or security purposes.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The state and federal courts located in Minnesota have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms or the service. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.

15. Other terms

You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, along with our Privacy Notice and Refund Policy, form the entire agreement between you and Areteos LLC regarding ShiftStep. We may update these Terms; if a change is material, we will notify you by email or in the service before it takes effect. Continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
